“European Crayfish: Food, Flagships and Ecosystem Services”
  Poitiers, France (26th – 29th October 2010)

This congress will be held in Espace Mendès France (Poitiers, France).

The Laboratoire d’Ecologie, Evolution, Symbiose, UMR-CNRS 6556 is very happy to welcome astacologists (scientists and managers) to this meeting dealing with 2 main topics sessions:

1) Interactions of crayfish and fish in freshwater ecosystems (competition, predation, other ecological interactions).

2) Socio-economic aspects: –crayfish production, past and present, costs of fisheries; devlopment of new ideas such as cultural values and ecosystem services for human well-being; new insights such as crayfish as flagship species, eco-tourism, linked with education of the public, and also with restoration of aquatic ecosystems. Recent projects such as the MEA and Biodiversity Plans are of equal importance with the production of food.

These main topic sessions will lead up to the final meeting with EIFAC on 29th October But of course other communications (oral or posters) are welcome and will be accepted for other sessions.

Proceedings of the congress will be published in a special issue of the Journal Knowledge and Management of Aquatic ecosystems.
